vitamins for dogs?
i would like to know can you give your dog people vitamins ?
i have a friend she dont buy pet vitamins, she gives her dog
people vitamins a multivitamin one every day, i thought you had to give dogs pet vitamins ? anyone know if iam right or worng.
Dogs and people have totally different nutritional needs!! Eat and/or provide a balanced, species appropriate diet and you shouldn't need to supplement.
Most vitamin supplements are just p*ssed away as the excess nutrients aren't absorbed anyway. There are several nutrients however that are not soluble and therefore retained by the body. This can lead to excess amounts and health issues. Excess vitamin A, iron and calcium can all cause problems.I give Vitamin E. You can also give fish oil caps - it's the same thing either way you look at it.
I also give a dog supplement called Missing Link.
Vitamins are OK to give in moderation. I always check with my Vet first.I have known of people that give their pets people vitamins, but they only give them to them occasionally, and about 1/2 a tablet, instead of a whole one. But there are good pet vitamins out there. Some, you could purchase through the vet. Also, it the pet food aisle at the supermarket they may have some. The one I see most is by Hartz. The sell both dog and cat vitamins, and usually cost $ 10-$ 12 more or less. The vet won't recommend you giving 'people vitamins' to your pet, if you are ok with it, try giving the dog just a half a tablet occasionally, or the best route would be the pet vitamins.Well if your feeding a premium food you should not be giving vitamins. But if you're feeding your dog a low quality food then i would then give vitamins. you really shouldn't give people vitamins they are a stronger dosage and it could cause harm to your dog if they get too many in their system. Could cause liver and kidney failure.
